Curriculum

Beginner

I use a variety of curricula, for instance, Piano Adventures and John Thompson’s Method Book, Easiest Piano Course, Books 1-4. In addition, students learn to play First Lessons in Bach, Book 1.

Intermediate

For intermediate students, I introduce Hanon’s Virtuoso Pianist in Sixty Exercises for the Piano. In addition, Carl Czerny’s Collected Studies; The School of Velocity, Op. 299 is used to strengthen their technique. For learning various pieces, I use John Thompson’s Modern Course, Grade 2-3 so that students can learn Baroque, classical, and romantic period pieces that are simplified. In addition, Mozart’s Sonatas, K.6-8 and Six “Viennese” Sonatinas, K.Anh.229 (K.439b) are taught, in addition to The First Lessons in Bach, Book 2.

Advanced Intermediate/Advanced

.For advanced intermediate students, they learn to play the twelve major and minor scales along with Carl Czerny’s Collected Studies; The Art of Finger Dexterity, Op. 740, Thirty New Studies in Techniques, Op. 849. In addition, all the early Sonatas by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. I also Introduce Frederick Chopin’s Etudes, Preludes, Mazurkas, Waltzes, and Polonaises. For advanced students, I introduce works from 20th-century composers and concertos.

I use this as a guide, however, more pieces are included to meet the student’s needs.
